William H. Russ (born April 24, 1949) is an American actor, who appeared in the show Miami Vice as Evan Freed, DEA agent and former Miami Vice cop who worked with Crockett in the episode "Evan".
Career[]
Russ was born in New Orleans, Louisiana (some sources cite Portsmouth, Virginia) to a Naval family. He attended the University of Michigan, then began his acting career on the New York stage before going into film roles, getting his debut role in 1977's Death Bed: The Bed That Eats. Other movie roles included Just You and Me, Kid (with Keye Luke), Cattle Annie and Little Britches (with Amanda Plummer and Perry Lang), The Border (with Elpidia Carrillo), The Right Stuff (with Veronica Cartwright), Wanted: Dead or Alive (with Gene Simmons and Jerry Hardin), California Solo (with Michael Des Barres), The Maestro (with Xander Berkeley, Lenny Von Dohlen, and Jon Polito, and his most recent movie appearance, 2018's Between Waves (with Rita Moreno).
In television, Russ' most famous role was as Alan Matthews, father of Cory Matthews (played by Ben Savage) in the series Boy Meets World from 1993-2000, and reprised his role in the sequel series Girl Meets World. He made his TV debut on the soap Another World in 1978, then made guest appearances in the series V, The Dukes of Hazzard, Riptide (with Perry Lang), Hunter, the TV movie The Long Hot Summer (with Don Johnson), Crime Story (with Dennis Farina), Capital News (with Mark Blum), Nash Bridges (with Don Johnson), JAG (with David Andrews), NCIS, Vegas (with Michael Chiklis and James Russo), NCIS: Los Angeles (with Miguel Ferrer), and his most recent TV appearance, three episodes of the series Bosch (with Paul Calderon).
