"What's Love Got to Do With It" is a song by Tina Turner, featured on the album Private Dancer in 1984 and released as a single in May of that year. It appeared in the Miami Vice episode "Calderone's Return (Part II)".

Notes[]

  • Noogie Lamont sings several lines from the song in "Cool Runnin'", several episodes before the track itself would appear in "Calderone's Return (Part II)".
  • The Tina Turner song "Better Be Good to Me" would later appear in the episode "Give a Little, Take a Little". Both tracks were singles from the Private Dancer album.
  • This song was Tina Turner's only #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100, and her only gold single. It was played over the end credits instead of the normal Miami Vice Theme, one of only three times in the series this occurred. Due to the length of the sequence (and all of the flashbacks plus the end credits), most of the song is played instead of a "snippet".
  • The song that knocked "What's Love Got to Do With It" out of the #1 spot was John Waite's "Missing You", featured in the episode "Heart of Darkness".
  • The song is played over the closing credits of the episode, one of only three times in the series a song other than the "Miami Vice Theme" plays over the credits -- the others being "Life Is a Rat Race" in "Phil the Shill" and "Tell Me" in the series finale "Freefall".
