The Cure is an English rock band whose song "The Kiss" appeared in the episode "Heart of Night" of the series Miami Vice.

Career[]

The band formed in 1976 in Sussex, England, out of a group called The Obelisk by Robert Smith, Michael Dempsey, and Lol Tolhurst. Smith then renamed their band "Easy Cure", then just "The Cure". Their debut album, Three Imaginary Boys, was released in 1979 (featuring "Boys Don't Cry"), then Dempsey left the group and Simon Gallup (bass) and Matthieu Hartley (keyboards) joined. Their next two albums, 1980's Seventeen Seconds and 1981's Faith took a more gothic turn. 1982's Pornography was the third in their goth series, and after its' completion Gallup left the band. In 1984 The Top became The Cure's fourth release, and the first to chart in the US, reaching #180 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart. 1985's The Head on the Door (featuring "In Between Days" and "Close to Me") went deeper on the chart, reaching #59. 1986's Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me was their first Top 40 album, and The Cure reached the Top 40 on the single chart with "Just Like Heaven", other singles included "The Kiss" and "Why Can't I Be You". 1989 saw the group finally hit their American pinnacle with Disintegration (#12), their single "Lovesong" reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and three other singles charted in the Hot 100. However, turmoil within the band caused numerous personnel changes and slowed their album output; from 1992-2008 only five studio albums were released and they still tour periodically, including a 2019 tour through Africa and Europe, and induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 2023 the band had an North American tour called "Shows of a Lost World", their first American tour since 2016.
