The Blasters is an American rock band whose song "Dark Night" appeared in the episode "Whatever Works" of the series Miami Vice.
Career[]
The Blasters formed in Los Angeles in 1979 by the Alvin Brothers--Phil and Dave. They became part of the L.A. Punk Rock scene (along with X), and toured nearly continuously, recording four albums between 1980 and 1992. They included Los Lobos ("La Bamba") and country singer Dwight Yoakam on some of their tours. They appeared in the movie Streets of Fire, performing two songs, and they also appeared in From Dusk Till Dawn in 1996. "Dark Night" was their most known song, but none of their singles charted. Phil Alvin left the band in 1986 for a solo career, but the remaining members performed at the first Farm Aid concert. The band still periodically tours with and without the original members.
