Suicidal Tendencies is an American punk band whose song "Institutionalized" appeared in the episode "Free Verse" of the series Miami Vice.
Career[]
The band was formed in 1981 in California with the original lineup of Mike Muir on vocals, Mike Ball on guitar, Carlos Egert on drums and Mike Dunnigan on bass. The band's name and alleged affiliation with gangs caused controversy that actually worked in their favor, getting them a record deal, but by 1982 Egert left the band (the first of many changes) and replaced by Dunnigan's brother Sean, in 1983 Egert left, replaced by Grant Estes, and the band's self-titled debut album was released, featuring their single, "Institutionalized", which was one of the first punk songs to receive heavy airplay on MTV. The band continues to tour today. The band released their second album, Join The Army in 1987, which was more metal than punk, turning off their punk base. The album most fans consider their best, Lights...Camera...Revolution!, was released in 1990, but the group never reached mainstream success and broke up in 1995, then reformed in 1997 and remain active today, releasing the albums 13, in 2013, World Gone Mad in 2016, and Still Cyco Punk After All These Years in 2018.
