Stephen McHattie Smith (born February 3, 1947, Antigonish, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian actor who appeared as attorney Sam Boyle in the episode "Fruit of the Poison Tree" of the series Miami Vice.
Career[]
McHattie began his career in films, debuting in the 1970 movie The People Next Door (with Matthew Cowles), followed by the movies Von Richthoften and Brown (with Barry Primus), Gray Lady Down, Sticky Fingers (with Danitra Vance), Call Me (with Steve Buscemi, Patti D'Arbanville, David Strathairn, and Olek Krupa), Beverly Hills Cop III (with Timothy Carhart), The Tall Man, Death Wish (with Bruce Willis and Vincent D'Onofrio), and My Animal.
His TV career began on a 1974 episode of Adam-12, followed by appearances in Starsky and Hutch (with Paul Michael Glaser, David Soul, and Antonio Fargas), the mini-series Centennial, The Equalizer (with Primus, Sylvia Miles, and Brad Dourif), Crime Story (with Dennis Farina, John Santucci, and Bill Smitrovich), Beauty and the Beast (with Ron Perlman), Seinfeld (with Michael Richards), Quantum Leap (with Dean Stockwell), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Haven, Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt (one of three Jesse Stone TV movies he has appeared in), and Essex County. McHattie married and divorced actress Meg Foster, he is currently married to actress Lisa Houle and has three children.
