Rosanna DeSoto (born September 2, 1950) is an American actress, who appeared in the show Miami Vice as Erendira, mutual friend of Martin "Marty" Castillo and Jack & Laura Gretsky (played by Dean Stockwell & Natasha Detante) in the episode "Bushido" and Maria Lupe Cruz, matriarch of the Cruz crime family and sister of Ernesto Lupe in the episode "God's Work".

Career[]

DeSoto was born in San Jose, California, the daughter of Mexican parents. She began acting under the name of Rosanna Soto in 1972 and appeared in the TV series' Cannon, Kung Fu (with Keye Luke), and McMillan & Wife (episode with Val Bisoglio) before landing her first regular role in the short-lived series A.E.S. Hudson Street (with Gregory Sierra), when she began using DeSoto as her last name. She reunited with Sierra for 4 episodes of Barney Miller, other series she appeared in include Rhoda, Angie, and Punky Brewster before another regular role on the short-lived Redd Foxx Show. She later appeared in Quantum Leap (with Dean Stockwell), Murder She Wrote (episode with Ismael "East" Carlo), and her most recent role in 2001 on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.

Her movie roles began with 1980's Serial, followed by Stand and Deliver (with Edward James Olmos and Lou Diamond Phillips), 1987's La Bamba (with Lou Diamond Phillips and Esai Morales), Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (with Iman, Carlos Cestero & George Takei), and her most recent role, 2005's Once Upon A Wedding (with Esai Morales & Mario Ernesto Sanchez).

DeSoto married Oscar-winning screenwriter David S. Ward in 1980, they are now divorced and have two children, son Joaquin Atwood & daughter Sylvana Bonifacia.
