Richard Dale Jenkins (born May 4, 1947) is an American actor. He appeared in the show Miami Vice as DEA Agent Ed Waters, who set up the plot of two "bad" Vice cops smuggling cocaine into the US to smoke out the smuggler killers in the episode "Smuggler's Blues" and Marvin Goodman, mob boss who leans on Switek and his friends for gambling debts in the episode "Hard Knocks".

Early Life/Career

Jenkins was born in DeKalb, Illinois, the son of a homemaker & a dentist. He had a career in the theater before jumping to the screen, making his TV debut in the 1974 TV movie Feasting with Panthers, then in Parole (with Brent Jennings), and The Little Sister (with Jack Kehoe), followed by Alex Haley's Queen (with Lonette McKee). He then jumped to the big screen in Silverado, Hannah and her Sisters (with John Turturro, The Witches of Eastwick (with Veronica Cartwright), Little Nikita & Blaze (both with Jerry Hardin), Undercover Blues & It Could Happen To You (both with Stanley Tucci), The Mod Squad (with Dennis Farina, There's Something About Mary (with Chris Elliott), and many others before achieving a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his role of Professor Walter Vale in The Visitor. Some of his other movie appearances include Dear John (with David Andrews), Eat Pray Love (with Julia Roberts), The Rum Diary (with Bill Smitrovich), The Company You Keep (with Tucci and Chris Cooper), Turbo (with Luis Guzman), God's Pocket (with Turturro), Bone Tomahawk (with James Tolkan), and his most recent movie appearance, 2017's The Shape of Water (with John Kapelos), for which he received his second Oscar nomination, this time for Best Supporting Actor. Jenkins' other TV appearances include Six Feet Under, the 2014 mini-series Olive Ketteridge, for which Jenkins received the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie, and his most recent appearance, in the series Berlin Station.

Personal Life

Jenkins has been married to Sharon Frederick since 1969, and has two grown children: Sarah Pamela & Andrew Dale.
