Pagone was a racketeer that owned a boat where he ran his operation from. Pagone loaned money to Judge Roger Ferguson for his gambling addiction, when his debt became large Pagone demanded that Ferguson force his son, Matt, to throw his upcoming playoff game to pay off his debt. Ferguson went to his son who immediately refused to do that, then later Matt agrees to sit out the game but Pagone will not have any of that, he wants his son to play, poorly, or they both will pay a price. Ferguson later calls Matt and told him "everything's taken care of" and to play his best, then the judge goes to Pagone's boat and shoots him down before taking his own life.
