Morgan ran a string of portable hot dog stands that doubled as bookmaking operations. In 1985 three wild punks arrived in Miami and began hitting Morgan's stands, killing bookies and destroying his stands. He demanded extra security on his trucks, sent his assistant Ricky after them, saying he will kill the punks. However the punks killed Ricky and another goon, and continued their rampage. Vice Detectives James "Sonny" Crockett and Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs staked-out Morgan's operation, but nothing happened, the next day Crockett failed to show, and Tubbs was beaten by Morgan's security. After this turn of events, Vice shut down Morgan's operation and baited one of his trucks for the punks to hit.
