Miami Vice II is a 1986 soundtrack album containing music from the television series Miami Vice. It was the second of three soundtrack compilations relating to the show, containing a selection of popular and score music mostly taken from season 3 of the show.

Although the album did not enjoy the same level of success as the first Miami Vice soundtrack, the single "Crockett's Theme" was a huge hit across Europe, reaching #2 in the UK and holding the #1 spot in the Netherlands for four weeks. The album was followed by Miami Vice III in 1988.

Notes[]

  • Despite their inclusion on the album, "Send It to Me" by Gladys Knight & The Pips and "Lover" by Roxy Music never actually appeared in Miami Vice.
  • Patti LaBelle & Bill Champlin's "The Last Unbroken Heart" and Andy Taylor's "When the Rain Comes Down" were written exclusively for the show and have only ever appeared on Miami Vice soundtrack albums. "Send It to Me" by Gladys Knight & The Pips was also written exclusively for the album, although it never appeared in the show itself.
  • "Send It to Me", "The Last Unbroken Heart", "Crockett's Theme" and "When the Rain Comes Down" were released as singles in 1986 to promote the album.
  • The version of Steve Jones' "Mercy" included on the album is neither the full album version of the song, which runs 4:59 (more than 30 seconds longer), nor is it the standard single edit, which runs only 4:09. In fact, the version found on Miami Vice II, with a run time of 4:27, does not appear to have been released anywhere else.
  • With the exception of Phil Collins' "Take Me Home" (from season 2), every track is taken from the third season of Miami Vice.
  • A large number of the tracks on this second soundtrack album are from just a single episode - "Stone's War".
  • The three original Miami Vice soundtrack albums are also available in a box set as Miami Vice: The Ultimate Collection.
