Luke Austin Halpin (born April 4, 1947, New York City, New York) is a retired American actor who appeared (uncredited) as Metro-Dade Detective Frankel, partner of James "Sonny" Crockett, killed by Frank Hackman in 1980 in the episode "Forgive Us Our Debts" in the series Miami Vice.

Career[]

Halpin began his career as a child actor, making his acting debut in the TV series Studio One in Hollywood, then his film debut in the movie Street of Sinners (with Stephen Joyce), he then appeared in the TV shows The Defenders, Route 66, and The Naked City before his most famous movie role as "Sandy Ricks" in Flipper, which he parlayed into a sequel movie Flipper's New Adventure as well as a TV series that lasted three seasons (1964-67). Other movie appearances include If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium (with Ian McShane), Shock Waves, Hot Stuff, Eyes of a Stranger (with Toni Crabtree), Nobody's Perfekt (with Will Knickerbocker, Raymond Forchion, Jorge Gil, John Archie, Julian Byrd, and Harold Bergman), and his most recent movie, the 1996 remake of Flipper (with Mal Jones).

Some of his post-"Flipper" TV appearances include Death Valley Days, Caribe, and his most recent TV role in Extralarge: Diamonds. Halpin also made several apperances on the stage during his child acting days.

Personal Life[]

Halpin has been married three times, to Patricia Warren Ott in 1972, later divorced, and then married Judy Suzanne Meyer from 1977 until their 1987 divorce, they have two children, Kyle Austin (born 1980) and Blair Luke (born 1982), he is currently married to Deborah Jane Durrell in 1991, they have one child, Courtney Luke (born 1990). In 2015 it was announced that Halpin was suffering from Stage 4 head and neck cancer. In 2016 Halpin's cancer went into remission but his family announced Halpin was in the early stages of Alzheimer's Disease.
