John Charles Waite (born July 4, 1955) is an English rock singer, whose song "Missing You" appeared in the episode "Heart of Darkness" of the show Miami Vice.
Career[]
Waite began his career as a member of the English band, The Babys, who had three Billboard Top 40 singles before their breakup in 1980. Waite then released his first solo album, Ignition, in 1982, but didn't do well in America, despite his song "Change" (which would later be included in the soundtrack album for the movie Vision Quest) receiving heavy MTV and AOR airplay. His second album, No Brakes, was released in 1984 and became Waite's biggest hit album, and the first single, "Missing You", hit the #1 position. He released three more solo albums, but none reached the level of success as No Brakes, then in 1988 he joined up with Jonathan Cain (formerly with The Babys and Journey), Ricky Phillips, Neil Schon (also from Journey), and Deen Castronova to form the supergroup Bad English, their first single, "When I See You Smile", reached #1 in 1989, the group released two more albums before the band broke up in 1992. Waite returned to solo work and still tours, opening for Journey and performing in Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band. In 2006 "Missing You" was released as a duet with country singer Allison Krauss, and it reached the Top 40 on the Billboard country chart. His most recent album, Rough and Tumble, was released in 2011.
