John David Turturro (born February 28, 1957) is an American actor. He made his first TV appearance in the show Miami Vice as David Traynor, who ran a high-priced call girl service with his partner Lile (played by David Thornton), taking on Diane Gordon (played by Tery Ferman), and killed by Diane's sister Valerie (played by Pam Grier) in the episode "Rites of Passage".

Early Life/Career[]

Turturro was born in Brooklyn, New York. He began his movie career with an uncredited role in 1980's Raging Bull. In 1983 he created the title role of John Patrick Shanley's Danny and the Deep Blue Sea at the Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center. He repeated it the following year off-Broadway and won an Obie Award.

His TV appearances include playing "Billy Martin" in The Bronx Is Burning and "Ambrose Monk", the brother of the title character in Monk, for which he won an Emmy. His most recent TV appearance is in the 2019 series The Name of the Rose.

Personal Life[]

Turturro is the older brother of actor Nicholas Turturro, and cousin of actress Aida Turturro. John is married to fellow Miami Vice alum Katherine Borowitz (Rita Amato from "No Exit") and they have two sons, Amadeo (born 1990) & Diego (born 2000).
