James Earl Gilstrap (born November 10, 1946, Pittsburg, Texas) whose song "The Water's Too Deep" appeared in the episode "The Fix" of the show Miami Vice.
Career[]
Gilstrap began his career in the late 1960s as a backing singer for R&B and pop musicians. He sang the first two lines to the Stevie Wonder hit "You Are The Sunshine of My Life", as well as the theme to the 1974-79 series Good Times (with Blinky Williams). His only hit solo single was in 1975, "Swing Your Daddy", and he released two albums in the 1970s, Swing Your Daddy and Love Talk. He continues to collaborate as backing vocals for artists like Kelis, Starship, Joe Cocker, Boz Skaggs, and many others.
