Detective Eddie Rivera (1955-1984) was an officer with the Metro-Dade Police Department, working undercover in the Organized Crime Bureau, Vice Division. He was the partner of Detective Sergeant James "Sonny" Crockett.
Rivera was killed in the line of duty by a car bomb intended for dealer Corky Fowler, who also died in the blast.
Biography[]
Together with his partner James "Sonny" Crockett, Eddie worked dealer Corky Fowler in the hopes of arranging a meet with his boss Esteban Calderone, a major figure in the Miami drug trade known to the Vice cops only as "The Colombian". However, after finally arranging a deal with Corky, the Crockett and Rivera discovered that he was attempting to cut out his boss and go into business for himself.
The trio stopped under a highway overpass to review Corky's product; unknown to them, Calderone was aware of Corky's betrayal and had placed a bomb under the car in which Corky had stashed his product. While Crockett was distracted, the car bomb went off, killing both Corky and Eddie. Eddie was survived by his widow, Maria, and their unborn child.
Notes[]
- Rivera evidently became Crockett's partner some time after 1980, as at this time Crockett was partnered with Frankel.
