Danitra Vance (July 13, 1954 - August 21, 1994) was an American actress and comedienne who appeared as Annette McAllister, "mother" of Jeffrey McAllister in the episode "Child's Play" of the series Miami Vice.
Career[]
Vance got her start as a member of the 1985-86 cast of Saturday Night Live, becoming the first African-American woman regular cast member. Her memorable skits included That Black Girl, a parody of the TV series That Girl, and as Cabrini Green Harlem Watts Jackson, a professional teenaged mother who gave advice on pregnancy. She left after one season and went into movies, appearing in Sticky Fingers (with Stephen McHattie), Limit Up (with Dean Stockwell), The War of the Roses, Hangin' with the Homeboys (with John Leguizamo), Little Man Tate, and her final movie appearance, Jumpin' at the Boneyard.
Her other TV appearances included the TV movies The Cover Girl and the Cop, Sisters, and her final TV appearance, in Great Performances.
Death[]
Vance was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1990, and had a single mastectomy, but the cancer returned in 1993 and took her life on August 21, 1994, in Markham, Illinois, at the age of 40.
