Dan Hedaya (born July 24, 1940) is an American actor, who appeared in the show Miami Vice as Metro-Dade IAD Officer Ben Schroeder in the episode "One Eyed Jack" and Reuben Reydolfo, right-hand man to drug dealer Mario Fuente in the episode "Payback".
Early Life/Career[]
Hedaya was born in Brooklyn, New York. Before pursuing his acting career he was a junior high teacher. He got his start in an uncredited role in the movie Myra Breckenridge. He then went into television on the daytime soap opera Ryan's Hope, then a host of TV movie roles followed, including Commando (with David Patrick Kelly and Bill Paxton). He also appeared in guest roles in the series Kojak, Hill Street Blues, and St. Elsewhere, before getting one of his most known roles, as Nick Tortelli, ex-husband of Carla Tortelli in the comedy Cheers and the spin-off The Tortellis (which lasted 13 episodes). Hedaya also had guest roles in Family Ties, One of the Boys, and L. A. Law. He returned to the movies in Rookie of the Year, For Love or Money (with Bob Balaban), Maverick, Clueless, Ransom (with Evan Handler), Nixon (with John Diehl), and Dick. He also appeared in Alien Resurrection, during which he met a grisly end at the hands of the titular monsters. He returned to the police/mystery genre in the series Law and Order and as the title character's father in Monk. His most recent appearances were in the movies The Extra Man (with Patti D'Arbanville and John Pankow, The Humbling (with Kyra Sedgwick), Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (with Colin Ferrell), and The Big Take, and the TV series' The Mindy Project, Blue Bloods, and Odd Mom Out.
