Clarence P. Rupp (1919-2019) was a Miami judge who presided over Leon Jefferson's court case.
Biography[]
When Leon Jefferson was arrested, Crockett and District Attorney Gordon Avery conspired with Rupp to have Jefferson released without charge in return for cooperating with the State's Attorney -- in reality, Leon had done no such thing, but Crockett was hoping to pressure Leon into becoming an informant. During the hearing, a power failure in the courtroom led the entire staff -- including Rupp -- to draw weapons on Leon, an act Rupp labelled "a glowing testament of our Constitutional right to bear arms".
Notes[]
- Rupp actor Harold Bergman also appeared as another courtroom character, an unnamed usher, in the episode "Lombard".
- The character is credited as Sumner D. Rupp in the episode's end credits, yet the name tag seen on his bench in the courtroom clearly reads Clarence P. Rupp.
