Aerosmith is a retired American hard rock band whose song "Rag Doll" appeared in the episode "Honor Among Thieves?" of the series Miami Vice. The band also makes an appearance on the song "Walk This Way" by Run-D.M.C., a cover of Aerosmith's song of the same name that appeared in the episode "Walk-Alone".

Career[]

The band was formed in Boston, Massachusetts around 1970 by Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, and Ray Trabano (later replaced by Brad Whitford), and Joey Kramer. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1973, featuring the original version of "Dream On" and "Walkin' The Dog", then their followup, Get Your Wings (featuring "Same Old Song and Dance") was released, but it wasn't until 1975's Toys in the Attic that the band shot to stardom, including the singles "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way". The 1976 album Rocks included "Back in the Saddle" and continued their run, but rampant drug abuse in the band began to wear on the members, resulting in the departure of Perry and Whitford in 1979 and 1981, respectively. Aerosmith released one poorly received album, Rock in a Hard Place, but by 1984 the band's better days seemed behind them. Then Perry and Whitford returned, a new record deal was signed, the band sobered up, and their song "Walk This Way" was remade by the rap duo Run-D.M.C., with the video for the song featuring Perry and Tyler, and introduced Aerosmith's music to a new generation, which revitalized their career. In 1987 their comeback album Permanent Vacation (featuring "Rag Doll", "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)", and "Angel", their first Billboard Top 10 single in over a decade) went multi-platinum and the resulting tour (with Guns N' Roses) was a sellout. 1989's Pump also went multi-platinum and included the singles "Janie's Got A Gun", "The Other Side", and "Love in an Elevator", and resulted in another successful tour. The band won their first Grammy Awards for Best Rock Vocal Performance By A Group for the songs "Livin' On The Edge" and "Crazy" (the video of which starred Tyler's daughter, Liv Tyler) from their album Get A Grip. Aerosmith performed at Super Bowl XXXV, which climaxed with a performance of "Walk This Way" with Britney Spears, Mary J. Blige, and Nelly. In the 2000s Aerosmith continues to perform live and record albums, their music was prominently featured in the video game Guitar Hero: Aerosmith which featured a custom-designed Joe Perry guitar, and Tyler was a judge on the TV reality show American Idol in 2011-12. SInce 2012 the band has released another studio album, Music from Another Dimension!, went on six tours, Tyler's release of a solo album, and a residency in Las Vegas where they perform shows at the MGM Grand Hotel in 2019. In 2023 Aerosmith began its' Peace Out farewell tour, but was cut short by a larynx injury suffered by Tyler at a New York concert late in 2023. The remaining dates were moved into 2024-2025, but Tyler's inability to recover from the injury prompted the band to announce their retirement from touring, effective immediately, on August 2, 2024, and all remaining concert dates were cancelled.
