Robert Steven Belew (born December 23, 1949, Covington, Kentucky) is an American rock singer/songwriter/producer/guitarist whose song "Paint the Road" appeared in the episode "Missing Hours" of the series Miami Vice.
Career[]
Belew began working with the cover band Sweetheart in the mid 1970s, later meeting and working with Frank Zappa from 1977-78, then moving on to David Bowie, later to Talking Heads, his own band GaGa, and Tom Tom Club (formed as a side project by Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz). Weymouth and Frantz even offered to replace frontman David Byrne with Belew but declined, and went solo in the early 1980s, recording three albums. Belew also worked with King Crimson from 1981 until a 1984 breakup, then moved to The Bears, a rock band, before returning to solo work in the late 1980s. He has recorded another 14 studio albums between 1990-2019, played with King Crimson until 2009, then formed The Power Trio with Eric and Julie Slick. In 2013 Belew was briefly with Nine Inch Nails as their guitarist but left after a short time. In 2019 Belew expanded The Power Trio to a quartet, joining Julie Slick is Jordan Perlson and Saul Zonana, and a tour was launched. In 2022 Belew participated in the "Celebrating David Bowie" tour, which included Todd Rundgren among others, then in 2023 joined Talking Heads member Jerry Harrison on the "Remain in Light" tour, playing songs off the Heads' album of the same name.
